A former industrial building. That’s what L’Assemblée-fabrique artistique was. Now it’s a vibrant cultural hub. It’s located in Lyon’s 3rd arrondissement in the Villette/Paul Bert district.

L’Assemblée-fabrique artistique opened its doors in June 2023. It’s more than just a theatre. It’s a creative melting pot. The name itself means “The Assembly”. It perfectly reflects its purpose. It brings together amateur and professional performers. They work together in this lively space. It’s open to the neighborhood.

Thomas Poulard’s Compagnie du Bonhomme moved in October 2022. They’re instrumental in L’Assemblée’s development. The City of Lyon the Lyon Metropolis and the DRAC Auvergne Rhône-Alpes support the project. They provide crucial funding and backing.

L’Assemblée-fabrique artistique offers residencies. These are for theatre dance and music companies. Residencies last one to three weeks. They offer time for creation and project presentations. There are three types of residencies. First there’s a call for residencies. About ten projects are selected each season. Artists work on lighting sound video and scenography. The residency ends with a public performance or presentation. Second are the facility rentals. The workshop and performance spaces are available. This is for emerging and professional companies for rehearsals. These are self-sufficient residencies without technical support. Finally there are partnerships. Some residencies partner with Lyon cultural institutions. This includes Les Célestins-Théâtre de Lyon and La Maison de la Danse.

L’Assemblée-fabrique artistique also focuses on education. It offers varied theatre workshops and classes for all ages. It collaborates with local residents associations and socio-cultural organizations. These tailored projects involve schools retirement homes and libraries. Artists in residence or Compagnie du Bonhomme often lead these community projects.

The main performance space is modular. It holds 80 to 100 people. It features a large stage. There’s also a workshop space for amateur activities. A 200m² bar and reception area hosts events. Storage spaces are available for companies and associations. The building also has offices. Some are used for administration and others are for rent.
