Pastor Newman’s smile welcomes you to the Lansing Assembly of God Church. This isn’t just any church. It’s a place steeped in history a testament to faith resilience and community. Located in Lansing Illinois its story began on November 24 1937. Thirty-two families united forming Grace Reformed Church. They initially worshipped in a school auditorium.
This humble beginning contrasted sharply with their future. In February 1938 they acquired the current church site. The cornerstone of the original basement church was laid on March 19 1938. By June it was ready for use. Rev Emo Ausema their first pastor led the congregation for six years. The church grew impressively from 32 to 83 families.
Growth spurred expansion. In the spring of 1949 construction began on the superstructure. It was finished by June 1950. Further expansion included stained-glass windows a Sunday school bus and a Wick pipe organ. An education wing was added in 1962.
The church continued to evolve. A contemporary worship style was introduced. A Coffee Break Women’s Ministry emerged. New positions like Ministry Director were created. The Lansing Assembly of God Church adapted to community needs. It embraced missions domestically and internationally. This commitment to outreach continues to this day.
