Imagine tiny hands reaching out. These hands are eager to feed a fluffy lamb. Langleybury Childrens’ Farm is a special place. It offers children the chance to connect with animals and learn about rural life.

Langleybury Childrens’ Farm has a unique history. It sits on part of a 400-acre estate. This estate was given to the local County Council in the 1960s. The Georgian Manor House was once a school. It closed in 1996.

The farm was originally used by the school. Students learned about rural studies here. The shop today was once the old classroom. Many buildings you see date back to that time.

In 2007, the manor and grounds were sold. The Grove generously sponsors the farm now. The farm exists as a charity. Its purpose is to educate about animals. People can see animals up close. They learn about their lives. They discover their behavior.

Langleybury Childrens’ Farm believes in education. It teaches children about rural life. It shows them where their food comes from. This is increasingly important. Society is becoming more distant from food production.

Let’s step back in time. The Langleybury Mansion has a rich history. Robert Raymond bought the estate in 1711. He later became Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales. In 1720, he built the mansion that still stands. You can still see his symbol. It is a griffin in a crown.

The estate passed through different families. The Filmers owned it from 1756 to 1838. They were absentee landlords. Edmund Fearnley Whittingstall bought it in 1838. He was a Watford brewer. William Jones Loyd owned the estate from 1856. He built St Paul’s Church nearby in 1864.

During World War II, the house was leased to an insurance company. In 1947, Hertfordshire County Council bought the estate. They turned it into Langleybury School. The school operated until 1996.

After the school closed, the mansion was used for filming. It appeared in the “Hope and Glory” TV series. It is now a popular film location.

Langleybury Childrens’ Farm plays an important role. It provides a fun and educational environment. Children learn about animals and farming. It continues a tradition of education and rural engagement. The farm thrives thanks to volunteers. A farm manager and farmhands work here too.

Think about the laughter of children. They are learning about where milk comes from. They are petting a gentle goat. Langleybury Childrens’ Farm is more than just a place. It is a connection to the land. It fosters a love for animals. It builds an understanding of rural life. It is a place where memories are made. It’s a place where education meets fun.
