The entire city park of Lübeck is a tribute. It honors Metaphius Theodor August Langenbuch’s values. We stand before the Langenbuch Stele. It’s a stone monument. It’s more than just a marker. It’s the only publicly erected memorial for municipal service in this park.

Langenbuch intentionally designed this park. He saw it as Lübeck’s pearl. He knew the environmental impact of planting trees. This garden reflects his vision.

Langenbuch honored Mayors Behn, Brehmer, and Klug. He planted three monumental trees. Sadly, these trees are no longer traceable.

The park itself is a testament to Langenbuch’s work. He carefully preserved the trees. He planted them a century ago. The park’s main entrance reflects his touch. There are beds of roses and tree trunks shaped like crowns. It shows Langenbuch’s idealized vision of nature.

This city park spans 120,000 square meters. It sits on the edge of the old town gate. Trees, shrubs, and lawns fill the area. Winding paths connect each section of the park.

In the park’s southern half, there is an irregular lake. There is also a smaller second lake. Don’t miss the Frog King pond. Otto Mantzel created the frog prince sculpture in 1903.

Columns of old villas surround the park. They showcase German architecture. The park offers a great view. You can see the medieval port with ships in the south.

The individual trees in this park are special. They are classified as natural monuments of Lübeck. They add to the park’s beauty.

Remember Langenbuch as you explore. He saw the value of nature. He created this space for all to enjoy. This stele stands as a reminder. It honors a man who shaped Lübeck’s landscape. It protects its environmental heritage.
