The Langelinie Pavillonen. A glass box suspended above the Copenhagen waterfront. This is not just any building. It’s a story whispered through three incarnations.

The first Langelinie Pavillonen? A charming structure from 1884. Designed by Vilhelm Dahlerup. It served as a clubhouse for the Royal Danish Yacht Club. A simple restaurant and cafe occupied its ground floor. It was a favorite among Copenhagen’s elite.

But time marches on. A grander vision emerged. In 1902 architect Fritz Koch replaced Dahlerup’s creation. His Langelinie Pavillonen was magnificent. An octagonal wonder with a domed banqueting hall. It could host 300 guests. A beacon of elegance and celebration.

Then came the war. The devastating Schalburgtage of 1944. The second Langelinie Pavillonen was destroyed. Reduced to rubble. A tragic loss for Copenhagen.

After the war a new chapter began. A competition was held to create a new Langelinie Pavillonen. Eva and Nils Koppel’s design won. Their modernist masterpiece. Built between 1956 and 1958. A sleek glass and steel structure. A bold departure from the past. The Langelinie Pavillonen was reborn.

The interior was a collaborative effort. Poul Henningsen’s iconic PH Artichoke lamps illuminate the space. Børge Mogensen designed the bar and cupboards. Verner Panton added his signature flair. The Langelinie Pavillonen became a showcase of Danish design.

Today the Langelinie Pavillonen stands as a testament to resilience. A modern icon nestled beside The Little Mermaid. A place where history echoes. A place where elegance and innovation dance. A place where Copenhagen’s spirit thrives. The Langelinie Pavillonen. Its story is far from over.
