Did you know that the Landweibelhäuser in Schaan has a story that stretches back centuries? This isn’t just another old building. It’s a window into Liechtenstein’s past.

The Landweibelhäuser stands proudly on Landstrasse. Numbered 71 to 75. South of the St. Peter crossing. Its name echoes through time. Locals affectionately call it “Landweibel-Huus”.

Let’s step back to 1562. The oldest part of the Landweibelhäuser emerged. It was a residential tower. Likely built for Landammann Hans Schierscher. Imagine life in the Early Modern period.

The building’s true value lies in its architectural history. It offers a glimpse into the living conditions of our ancestors. The Landweibelhäuser provides insights into their daily lives.

But why “Landweibel”? The name comes from Landweibel Ludwig Beck. He lived in the southern part of the building. From 1844 to 1928, he resided here. His living room even served as a police post. The Landweibels were predecessors of today’s national police force.

Since 1988, the Landweibelhäuser has been under historical monument protection. This ensures its preservation for future generations. In 2006, it underwent renovations. Now, during the summer months, its doors are open to the public on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Exhibitions fill its rooms.

Just a stone’s throw away lie the foundations of a Roman castle. The early Christian Church of St. Peter is also nearby. History surrounds the Landweibelhäuser.

Imagine attending an event here. The historically valuable backdrop adds a special touch to social gatherings. Companies, clubs, and alumni associations can book guided tours. These can be combined with an aperitif in the Landweibelhäuser tent.

Speaking of the tent, it houses a hydraulic cider press. It dates back to the 1930s. Remarkably, it still works. In October, school classes and kindergartens use it.

So, as you stand before the Landweibelhäuser, consider its layers of history. From a 16th-century residential tower to a police post. It stands as a testament to Liechtenstein’s enduring heritage. This building is more than bricks and mortar. It’s a story etched in time. A story that continues to unfold.
