Did you know that the Landgericht Konstanz has a history stretching back to 1836? The Landgericht Konstanz stands before us. It is more than just a courthouse. It is a place where justice and history intertwine.

Originally, the Landgericht Konstanz was the badische Hofgericht. It moved to Konstanz from Meersburg. This transition marked a significant chapter in the region’s legal history.

The main building is the Blarersche Domherrenhof. Johann Jakob Blarer von Wartensee built it in 1620. The address was Gerichtsgasse 15. In 1847, the court moved into this building after extensive renovations. People complained about the building’s shortcomings. The heating system was especially problematic.

Major improvements came in the 20th century. In 1962, a modern extension designed by Franz Hitzel and Johannes Weber opened. This expansion featured a concrete skeleton construction. It connected to the old building via a transparent structure. The Landgericht Konstanz’s main entrance shifted to Untere Laube 27.

The extension includes four wings. One wing is taller and houses the new courtroom. A green courtyard is at the center. This flat-roofed structure from 1964 is an example of post-war architecture in Konstanz.

Some Landgericht Konstanz departments are in nearby buildings. These include the former Bischöfliches Spital and the former IHK building. The Oberlandesgericht Karlsruhe is the court of appeal.

The Landgericht Konstanz has six civil chambers. It also has nine criminal chambers and three commercial chambers. Thirty-three judges and about 65 staff members work here.

The Staatsanwaltschaft Konstanz is responsible for the district of the Landgericht Konstanz. The district includes the regions of the Amtsgerichte Donaueschingen Konstanz Radolfzell Singen Stockach Überlingen and Villingen-Schwenningen. Around 580000 citizens live in this area. The Staatsanwaltschaft Konstanz is subordinate to the Generalstaatsanwaltschaft in Karlsruhe.

As we conclude our visit to the Landgericht Konstanz remember its historical roots. From its beginnings as the badische Hofgericht to its modern expansion, it embodies Konstanz’s legal heritage. The Landgericht Konstanz remains a cornerstone of justice in the region.
