Across Herne Hill, cheerful splashes of color dance in the breeze. These aren’t just any decorations. They are the Lamp Post Banner – Community Artwork murals. They tell a story of resilience and community spirit. In 2013, Herne Hill faced a devastating flood. Many local businesses were forced to close, some forever. The Herne Hill Forum and local traders wanted to revitalize the area. They commissioned Place in Print to create artwork for lamppost banners. The goal was to bring life back to the neighborhood and support the struggling businesses. Place in Print designed 18 different images. These images showcased local landmarks and businesses in their signature vintage travel poster style. Forty Lamp Post Banner – Community Artwork murals went up around Herne Hill in 2015. The vibrant designs depict the heart of Herne Hill. They serve as a reminder of the community’s strength and spirit. Even years later, the Lamp Post Banner – Community Artwork murals continue to draw compliments. They have become a beloved part of the Herne Hill landscape. Prints of the banner designs are now available for purchase. This allows people to take a piece of Herne Hill’s story home with them.
