In 1992, three rivers of knowledge converged to form the mighty Lambeth College. It sprang from the legacy of Vauxhall College of Building and Further Education, Brixton College of Further Education, and South London College (once known as Norwood Technical College). Lambeth College quickly became a beacon of learning in the London Borough of Lambeth. Today, we stand before one of its campuses, a testament to its commitment to education. Lambeth College offers a vast ocean of learning, from NVQs and City and Guilds qualifications to BTECs and T-Levels. If you haven’t got your GCSEs in English and Maths, or want to improve your grades, Lambeth College offers those too. Think of it as a one-stop shop for skills and knowledge. In 2012, Lambeth College underwent a transformation, focusing on employability. This meant equipping students with the skills needed to thrive in the Lambeth job market. A new logo and motto symbolized this fresh approach, alongside the introduction of new courses. A-levels were phased out as the college streamlined its offerings to meet the demands of the local economy. Lambeth College didn’t rest on its laurels. In 2019, it joined the London South Bank University (LSBU) Group. This partnership marked a new chapter, creating a powerful synergy between further and higher education. Now known as South Bank Colleges, it includes Lambeth College (Clapham and Brixton campuses) and London South Bank Technical College (Nine Elms campus). The college hasn’t been without its challenges. In 2014, faculty members went on strike over proposed contract changes. While not fully resolved at the time, the strike sparked important conversations and led to investment in the college’s facilities. The Brixton campus was redeveloped, a new Nine Elms campus was built, and planning permission has been granted to rebuild the Clapham campus. The future of Lambeth College looks bright. Ofsted rated South Bank Colleges as “Good” in 2022, a testament to its dedication to providing quality education. As you explore the campus, remember the legacy of those three original colleges and the ongoing commitment to empowering learners at Lambeth College.
