Seven acres of urban oasis. That’s Lake Shore Park. Nestled in Streeterville its history stretches back to 1869. Planning began then. Actual development by the Lincoln Park Commission started in 1900.

Lake Shore Park wasn’t always a place of leisure. Imagine the transformation. From a vision to reality. The fieldhouse a majestic structure finished in 1916. It faced Lake Shore Drive and the vast Lake Michigan. A running track a baseball diamond tennis courts. They were all installed to the west. These were exciting additions to the growing park.

Today Lake Shore Park is stunning. It’s bordered by the Museum of Contemporary Art. Its stepped terraces frame the park beautifully. The park’s northwest corner is home to the tennis courts. The gymnasium is nearby. It boasts a fitness center and accessible exercise equipment. Pickleball courts are there too.

Across from the tennis courts is a community garden. Established ten years ago by volunteers it features lush perennial gardens. Chicagoans help care for these beautiful plants.

The Lake Shore Fieldhouse stands on the east side. It’s open daily. The park offers after-school programs. There’s even a six-week day camp in the summer months. Kids can enjoy swimming and learning. The park has much more to offer. It hosts summer events. Concerts Movies in the Park and Night Out in the Parks are popular.
