In 1955, a beacon of faith emerged in the heart of Lake Highlands. It was Lake Highlands United Methodist Church. It started as a dream. A dream of a community united in faith. This dream materialized at the intersection of McCree and Plano Roads, directly across from McCree Park. The church quickly became a cornerstone of the community, offering not only spiritual guidance but also a place of connection and belonging. Lake Highlands United Methodist Church is more than just a building. It’s a vibrant tapestry woven from the lives of countless individuals and families. From those embarking on life’s journey to those enjoying their golden years, the church embraces all. Lake Highlands United Methodist Church is not just a community, it is a family. The church’s mission is deeply rooted in the love of Christ. They strive to connect people through this love, deepen their relationships with Christ, and serve with the heart of Christ. This mission extends beyond its walls. The church actively engages with the local community through various outreach programs. They also offer global missional opportunities, allowing parishioners to extend their compassion to those in need around the world. In January 2023, the church faced a pivotal moment. A vote was held to decide whether to disaffiliate from the United Methodist Church. The decision, a close one, was to remain within the UMC. This decision reflected the church’s commitment to its core values of inclusivity and unity. Today, Lake Highlands United Methodist Church continues to thrive, offering three distinct Sunday services. At 8:30 a.m., a traditional service is held in the Chapel. Then, at 11:00 a.m., two services occur simultaneously: a traditional service in the Sanctuary and a contemporary service in the Great Hall. This diverse range of worship experiences reflects the church’s commitment to meeting the spiritual needs of its diverse congregation. Lake Highlands United Methodist Church stands as a testament to the power of faith and community. It’s a place where lives are transformed, connections are forged, and hearts are opened to the love of Christ.
