Do you hear the echoes of families laughing and children playing? This is Lakatos-lakótelep, a significant residential area in Budapest’s District XVIII. It is often simply called Lakatostelep.
Lakatos-lakótelep was constructed in two main phases. The first phase spanned from 1963 to 1967. The second occurred between 1975 and 1987. Imagine this area transforming from open land into a bustling community.
In 1974, Lakatos-lakótelep served as a filming location. The youth series “Utánam, srácok!” used the area for its housing estate scenes. This fact remains little-known to many. Some people even mistakenly believe the scenes were filmed in Miskolc. The film is set in Miskolc. However, all the building types found here in Lakatos-lakótelep can also be found in Miskolc.
Lakatos-lakótelep offers numerous recreational opportunities. There are nine playgrounds and two sports fields. The Gӧrӧg-domb or Greek hill is a local favorite. People come here to play sports. Dog walkers and children sledding in winter also enjoy the area. “Lakatos Days” and other events often take place here.
For shopping, residents have a Reál and a Príma. Several small shops also serve the community. The Príma is located on the main square. Here, you can find a greengrocer. You can also find a pub, pharmacy, children’s clinic, lottery shop and a tobacco shop. Right across from the estate, there is even a Lidl. Banks, hairdressers, bakeries, a toy shop and restaurants are also nearby.
The residents are proud of the Búdi-tó. It is a local lake and beauty spot.
Families living in Lakatos-lakótelep have access to good educational facilities. The Pestszentlőrinci Német Nemzetiségi Általános Iskola is one option. The Eötvös Loránd Általános Iskola is another. Both schools have nurseries and kindergartens nearby. This makes life easier for families with young children.
Getting around from Lakatos-lakótelep is easy. Pestszentlőrinc train station is located at the edge of the neighborhood. The terminus of bus 36 is in front of the station. This bus line runs directly through the housing estate. Buses 182 and 184 also run along Nefelejcs Street. These buses provide quick access to the M3 metro line at Kőbánya-Kispest.
