The roar of engines echoes in my memory. I remember the thrill of the first test.
The Laboratório de Engenharia Veicular at PUC-Rio is more than just a building. It’s a testament to Brazilian ingenuity and collaboration. Founded in September 2003 this laboratory is a remarkable achievement. It combines the expertise of PUC-Rio the federal government and private companies in the automotive and fuel sectors.
The ground floor houses three impressive rooms. One is dedicated to engine testing. Another focuses on vehicle testing. The third manages the equipment’s operation and control. Think of the intricate machinery the precise instruments. Imagine the dedication of the engineers and technicians. They pour their hearts into every experiment. Every test run is crucial.
In 2005 an electronics lab was added. This was on the upper floor. It focuses on developing control units and specific instrumentation. This addresses the LEV’s unique needs. Two other rooms were also added. These rooms house students and support ongoing research and services. The lab has a natural gas supply. This is thanks to CEG. The high-pressure gas supply simplifies using this fuel in tests.
The Laboratório de Engenharia Veicular is equipped with state-of-the-art tools. These tools include an AVL/ALPHA bench dynamometer. There’s also an AVL/APA bench dynamometer and a large-diameter AVL roller dynamometer. Systems for measuring pollutant emissions are available. The lab boasts a pilot robot and an automatic fuel feeder. A pantographic lift capable of handling 3500 kg is a key feature. There are also modules for testing suspension alignment suspension efficiency and service and parking brakes. The impressive 250 HP vehicle power bench completes the arsenal.
Funding for this impressive facility comes from FINEP Petrobras and PSA Peugeot/Citroën. The Laboratório de Engenharia Veicular at PUC-Rio isn’t just a research center. It’s a hub for innovation pushing the boundaries of automotive engineering in Brazil. It is a place where dreams of better vehicles are brought to life. The next generation of engineers are trained here. This is where the future of automotive technology is being shaped. It is a place that deserves a visit. A place that deserves your attention. It is a place that deserves to be remembered.
