Here at La Prada Drive Church of Christ plaque, history echoes. This isn’t just a marker. It’s a testament to faith and community. The La Prada Drive Church of Christ has a rich history spanning over 170 years. The congregation first gathered in 1845. They met in Long Creek east of Mesquite. Back then it was called the Bethany Church of Christ.

They stayed there until 1871. Members then ventured toward Dallas. They initially met in homes. In 1888 they purchased land. Thus the Dallas Church of Christ was born. Its location was at Dallas and Armstrong Street. This was south of Fair Park. Over time the street transformed into Fitzhugh Avenue. The church became the Fitzhugh Avenue Church of Christ.

The congregation remained there until 1954. They bought property on Bruton Road. This was in the Pleasant Grove area. A red brick building was erected that same year. The congregation moved. They congregated there for over 25 years.

In 1978 leaders assessed where members resided. They recognized the need for a new facility. Land was acquired at La Prada and Galloway in Mesquite. Before construction concluded the Bruton Road building sold. The congregation temporarily met in a local elementary school. Once finished they moved into this current building. It was then that the congregation was renamed La Prada Drive Church of Christ.

Today La Prada Drive Church of Christ continues its mission. It seeks to honor God. It loves Him and one another. It offers a loving family environment. It serves as a lighthouse for the lost. It is also a greenhouse for the saved. The church strives to show the world the power of Jesus Christ. This power saves us from sins. It provides a nurturing atmosphere for spiritual growth. Services are held on Sundays at 10:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Wednesday nights see services at 7:30 p.m. On the fourth Sunday of each month the evening service is held earlier. It starts at 1:15 p.m.
