Created by Philippe Hiquily in 1981, this striking steel sculpture stands as a testament to the human spirit’s pursuit of excellence. La Marathonienne was initially commissioned for the Complexe Sportif Georges Gosnat, a sports center in Vitry-sur-Seine, a suburb of Paris. Standing at an impressive six meters tall, the original La Marathonienne, crafted from Corten steel, was designed to inspire and uplift those who gazed upon her dynamic form. While the original remains a beloved landmark in Vitry-sur-Seine, La Marathonienne’s fame extends far beyond the suburbs of Paris. Hiquily, recognizing the sculpture’s universal appeal, created smaller editions of La Marathonienne in 2004. These editions, cast in bronze and steel, allowed art enthusiasts worldwide to bring a piece of La Marathonienne’s energy into their own spaces. One of these smaller La Marathoniennes even graced the set of the hit television series “Billions,” captivating audiences with its powerful presence.
