Long ago in Loma Hermosa a group of neighbours met. They wanted to improve their lives. They formed a Society of Improvement and a Police Cooperative. This was in 1942. The meeting took place at the home of Engineer Aurelio Montanelli. His chalet still stands today. It is in Loma Hermosa. This area was then part of what is now Tres de Febrero Partido and General San Martín Partido.

Loma Hermosa is a town in Buenos Aires Province Argentina. It is part of the Greater Buenos Aires urban agglomeration. It has a rich history. The town’s history is intertwined with the history of nearby towns. They all share a similar history. Landowners at the end of the 19th century included Dr José M Bosch. Others were José F Piaggio and Pablo Marengo. Mariana Beubner de Kratzenstein also owned land. Leonardo Pereyra was another. The Bosch family had their land since 1871.

The yellow fever epidemic of 1871 prompted many to move from Buenos Aires. They sought safer places to live. By the 1920s brothers Rafael and Benito del Corazón de Jesús Bosch y Miguens owned the land where Loma Hermosa stands. Route 8 didn’t exist yet. It opened in 1938. Avenida Márquez was dirt until 1937. That year it began to be paved.

In 1937 Bravo Barros y Cía began to sell plots of land. They sold land for houses and gardens. The smallest plot was 5000 square meters. The first plots were between Avenida Márquez Gabino Ezeiza Route 8 and Triunvirato. This was known as Ampliación Villa Bosch. Early buyers included the Mazza Farina Pelliza Metzig and Traverso families. Also Montanelli Calisti Peschel Morganti Chiesa Cánepa Maresca Bonfanti Natale Blanco Mora Arduino and Boley. These early residents saw no electricity telephones schools or public transport.

The area had two dairies. One belonged to Pablo Razeto. The other was owned by the Lartirigoyen brothers. They supplied milk and vegetables. They sold to Buenos Aires and San Martín. The Society of Improvement worked hard. They improved life in Loma Hermosa. Public transport arrived. The number 7 bus line arrived. This is now line 176. Homes replaced the country houses. Industry came.

On July 8 1945 the police station opened. It was at the corner of Avenida Márquez and San Guillermo. Agent Peralta was the first officer. He’d already been working there for two years. He lived in the caretaker’s house. This was on Engineer Montanelli’s property. The first school opened on land donated by Juan and José Farina. It is located on Río Salado and Mansilla. The first shops opened too.

Loma Hermosa grew quickly. The population grew. It continues to grow. People work in the area’s industries. There are many businesses in Loma Hermosa. By 1991 6 surrounding towns had 708 industrial businesses and 1843 shops. They had over 65000 residents. More buses serve Loma Hermosa. Today the Gabriela Mistral library stands. It is a centre for culture. It is in Loma Hermosa. Loma Hermosa is a place where history unfolds. It is a vibrant part of Greater Buenos Aires.
