The La Grange Art League Gallery, a haven for creative spirits, has a story woven into its very bricks. It stands on Calendar Avenue, a three-minute walk from the LaGrange Road stop on the BNSF Metra. This charming gallery pulsates with a vibrant artistic energy. The La Grange Art League Gallery was born out of a desire to foster artistic expression in the community. In 1933, a group of professional and amateur artists from LaGrange and Western Springs united to form the League. These artists held meetings in various locations, like Lyons Township High School and the YMCA, yearning for their own dedicated space. Their dreams took shape in 1942 with the establishment of a building fund, paving the way for a future gallery, meeting place, and studio. The La Grange Art League Gallery, as it is today, wasn’t born until 1984. After years of fundraising efforts and dedicated volunteer work by members, the League finally purchased a building at 122 Calendar Court. This former retail space had fallen into a state of disrepair. However, with relentless dedication and a shared vision, the members transformed the space into a thriving art center. Today, the La Grange Art League Gallery is a vibrant testament to the power of communal dedication. It attracts artists and art enthusiasts alike, offering classes, workshops, and exhibitions that celebrate the diverse talents of local artists.
