The rich aroma of chocolate hangs heavy in the air. This is La Giralda Cafetería.

La Giralda Cafetería is more than just a café. It’s a living piece of Buenos Aires history. Nestled on Avenida Corrientes 1453 it embodies the city’s vibrant cultural past. Founded in 1930 as a dairy it transformed into the iconic café we see today in 1951.

Its name a tribute to Seville’s Giralda tower is reflected in a beautiful stained-glass window. The original Spanish owners chose this name to honor their heritage. The café occupies the ground floor of a stunning early 20th-century building designed by German architect Carlos Nordmann. For many years La Giralda operated 24 hours a day. Even today it maintains those hours on Fridays and Saturdays a testament to its enduring popularity.

Antonio Nodrid bought La Giralda in 1951. He maintained the original name and the tradition of delicious churros. His great-grandson was the last Nodrid to run it. New owners Gabriel Garcia and Nicolás Marqués bought the business in 2018. They undertook a renovation carefully balancing its vintage charm with modern updates. They preserved the historic façade. Inside they mixed vintage and modern creating a unique space.

Ariel Jacyk joined La Giralda in 2020. He oversaw its reopening in August 2021. He witnessed the incredible reception. Old customers returned delighted to see their beloved café restored. New generations discovered the magic of churros with chocolate and a rich history. La Giralda hosted countless notable figures. Poets actors singers writers and even presidents like Juan Domingo Perón graced its tables.

The café’s signature thick hot chocolate is a closely guarded secret. Served in special copper vessels it retains its perfect temperature. The blend uses two types of Argentinian chocolate. Other details remain a mystery. The current menu offers more than just the classic churros and chocolate. Now you can also enjoy a full restaurant menu. The dishes are thoughtfully prepared. They include a tempting lomo al malbec. There’s also a wide selection of salads wines and cocktails.

La Giralda continues its legacy as a cultural and culinary landmark. It offers a unique experience. It’s a place where history and deliciousness intertwine. Step inside and experience a taste of Buenos Aires’ rich past. Enjoy the chocolate. Enjoy the history. Enjoy La Giralda.
