Did you know Quito has a neighborhood named La Ferroviaria? La Ferroviaria translates to “The Railway.” This district’s name isn’t accidental. It’s deeply intertwined with Ecuador’s railway history. La Ferroviaria is more than just a name on a map. It’s a neighborhood brimming with approximately 79,549 residents as of 2019. It’s a vital piece of Quito’s urban puzzle, nestled within the Eloy Alfaro administrative zone. La Ferroviaria is located southeast of Quito’s city center. The bustling Avenida Pedro Vicente Maldonado borders it to the west. To the north lies Avenida Paredes de Alfaro. Avenida Simón Bolívar skirts its eastern edge. Interestingly, the southern part of La Ferroviaria houses the Eplicachima military facility, part of the Primera División del Ejército Shyris. La Ferroviaria isn’t just a single, monolithic entity. It’s composed of distinct barrios, each with its own character. These include Chaguarquingo, the upper section of Chiriyacu, Doscientas Casas, El Recreo, Ferroviaria (both Media and Alta), Forestal Alta, Media Luna, and San Patricio de Puengas.
