Overlooking the fields of Cergy, La butte à Juju stands as a testament to one man’s vision. Landscape architect Dominique Juglar, the mind behind many of Cergy’s green spaces like Parc du Chat Perché, envisioned this hill. La butte à Juju was formed from earth excavated during the construction of the A15 motorway. This artificial hill cleverly concealed a military bunker. Within the Établissement Public d’Aménagement, it was affectionately nicknamed “La butte à juju,” a name that stuck. Today at La butte à Juju, walkers and mountain bikers traverse its slopes, enjoying the unique landscape. From its summit, the views are breathtaking. You can see the market gardens of Cergy stretching out below. The river Oise meanders through the landscape. In the distance, the banks of Eragny shimmer. Dominique Juglar, the hill’s namesake, died in 1997 at the young age of 52. To honor his contributions to Cergy, a stele was erected on La butte à Juju’s slope in 2000. Juglar’s vision transformed Cergy into the beloved town nestled in the countryside that it is today. La butte à Juju is more than just a hill. It’s a tribute to a man who shaped the landscape and a cherished spot for those who appreciate the beauty he created.
