From the gentle slopes of the Goële region, La Beuvronne begins its journey. It’s a modest river, just 23.9 kilometers long. But its story, woven into the fabric of Île-de-France, is richer than its size suggests. La Beuvronne flows southwest initially, then curves south and finally southeast. It eventually meets the Marne at Annet-sur-Marne, becoming a part of the Seine’s vast network. The river’s name, La Beuvronne, whispers of a time when beavers, or *bèbros* in Gaulish, were plentiful along its banks. This name echoes in its tributary, the Biberonne, further solidifying the connection to these industrious creatures. Imagine the landscape centuries ago, teeming with beavers building their dams and shaping the flow of La Beuvronne. The river has witnessed significant changes. In 1813, La Beuvronne’s waters were diverted into the Canal de l’Ourcq. This dramatically altered the river’s flow. Mills downstream, once powered by La Beuvronne’s steady current, had to adapt. They began relying on the overflow, the Ru des Grues, and the Arneuse or Reyneuse. Many mills, like the Moulin de Vinantes, Moulin de la Haize, and Moulin de Tussac, eventually faded into memory. La Beuvronne’s path meanders through fifteen communes. From Cuisy, where it originates, to Annet-sur-Marne, where it joins the Marne, it shapes the landscape and the lives of those who live along its banks. Today, La Beuvronne flows through a region that is a mix of agricultural land, forests, and urban areas, a testament to the ever-changing relationship between humans and nature.
