The first stone was laid in 1973 by Archbishop Alfonso Espino y Silva. This magnificent church, with its towering arches, was a vision years in the making. It was Mons. Héctor Peña González who pushed forward the construction, with the help of Father Feliciano de la Rosa and Father José María Oceguera Ceja. Their dedication to this project was unwavering and it paid off, for La Ascensión del Señor became a defining landmark of the neighborhood.
