Stepping into the vibrant art scene of Leipzig, have you ever heard of Kunstraum artescena? This unique gallery, nestled on Endersstraße 6 in Lindenau, has a fascinating history. Kunstraum artescena wasn’t always located here. It began its journey in Leutzsch, housed within the historic Wächterhaus on Georg-Schwarz-Straße 70 from 2011 to 2014. The gallery eventually found its current home in Lindenau in 2018. Kunstraum artescena, meaning “art scene” in a mix of Spanish and Italian, truly lives up to its name. It pulsates with the energy of creative expression. One remarkable exhibition, “El mensaje de las modelos a la Humanidad” (The Message of the Models to Humanity) by Antonio Romoleroux, showcased a powerful collection of drawings and mixed media works. This online exhibition, launched in November 2021, gave voice to the models who have historically been viewed as mere subjects of artistic study. Their thoughts and feelings, captured within the artwork, conveyed profound messages to humanity. This exhibition, a first in Western art history, presented a holistic portrayal of these individuals, both physically and spiritually. It served as a poignant reminder of our shared humanity and the fundamental right to equality. The models, empowered to share their perspectives, sparked a meaningful dialogue about representation in art and reality. Kunstraum artescena continues to be a space where artists can push boundaries and challenge conventional perspectives. It invites visitors to engage with art that provokes thought and inspires change.
