Kulturhuset Islands Brygge opened its doors in 2002. Fogh and Fölner Arkitektfirma designed it. Its architecture reflects the harbor’s history. Think simple sheds and tarred structures. The building replaced Gimle. Gimle was a cultural center torn down on Ny Tøjhusgrunden.
Notice the large roof that seems to float. Floor-to-ceiling windows offer stunning water views. You can see Copenhagen’s skyline from here. The location is ideal right in the middle of Havneparken. The petanque court and harbor bath are close neighbors.
What exactly is Kulturhuset Islands Brygge? It is a diverse community center open every day. It has many spaces. The Hall hosts most cultural events. Lysthuset is a lovely banquet hall. There are meeting rooms too. They have names like Solisten Duetten and Symfonien. Undergrunden is a space for movement. Bryggens Spisehus is the cafe. Outside there is even a dance floor for open-air dancing in summer.
