Did you know that KPBC-AM once stood for Percy B Crawford? That’s right this Dallas radio station has a history as rich and varied as the city itself.

KPBC-AM began its broadcasting journey in 1990. It broadcast on 1040 kHz. It was a daytime-only station. Later, it transitioned to 770 kHz becoming a 24/7 operation.

But the story of KPBC-AM doesn’t end there. In 1999, a significant change occurred. The call letters changed to KAAM. This change marked a new chapter for the station.

KAAM revived a nostalgic format. It played oldies. It played music from the Big Band era. It became known as Legends 77. It aimed to capture the hearts of listeners who loved classic tunes. It competed with other stations like KLUV.

Over the years, KAAM evolved. In 2010, it added a talk block to its weekday lineup. Medical and financial programs filled the airwaves. This was named Ask the Pros.

KAAM embraced technology. It broadcast using HD Radio. It later discontinued this in 2010. The station could resume digital broadcasts at any time.

KAAM garnered recognition. In 2013, it was the most listened to AM station airing nostalgic music online. It was available on the TuneIn app.

In 2017, KAAM underwent a major transformation. It dropped the nostalgia music. It switched to Christian Talk. This change reflected a new direction for the station. The Legends music format continued online for several years. It was then discontinued.

Today, KAAM broadcasts over-the-air and online. It is a Christian radio station. Its story is one of constant adaptation. It responds to the changing needs and preferences of its listeners. From its early days as KPBC to its current form as KAAM, the station has left an indelible mark on Dallas radio. KAAM is owned and operated by DJRD Broadcasting, LLC. It operates on the clear-channel frequency of 770 AM.
