The Kozyatağı Modern Mehmet Çavuş Cami’s construction began in 1981. It was a dream a vision decades in the making. The necessary permits took time. The plans and projects took eleven years to complete. Construction finally started on October 3 1992. It concluded in 1997. The land was donated by Mehmet Çavuş himself. His name a fitting tribute to his generosity.
Professor Dr Şevket Sunar a respected Istanbul Technical University professor began the initial work. Unfortunately he passed away before completing the practical project. Architect Mete Fırıncıoğlu took over. He oversaw the project from foundation to completion. The mosque’s design reflects a unique blend of modern Ottoman and Seljuk architectural styles. The result? A truly remarkable structure. A space blending tradition with modernity.
Notice the dome. It’s not just a dome. It’s a statement. Its four sides are covered by a system of curved horizontal vaults. This design allows ample light to flood the interior. Ingenious engineering also went into the Kozyatağı Modern Mehmet Çavuş Cami. Drainage pipes were installed beneath the foundation. These protect the building from water damage. The mosque features underfloor heating and air conditioning. Up to 999 people can worship comfortably. The carpeting is also strategically placed. This maximizes space and order within the mosque.
