Once upon a time knitting tourists built a small bench. It was placed on the side of Tök Hill. Now we stand before Kötök padja. It is not just a bench but a window to the soul of the Pilisvörösvár basin.
Kötök padja is Hungarian for Knitters Bench. Imagine knitters seeking inspiration. They found it here. They created this small pad.
Climb as high as you can on the grassy slope. The panorama opens up more and more. Below us stretches a vast rapeseed field. Beyond that rises the twin peaks of Kevély. Turn left. The Visegrád Mountains appear behind Hosszú-hegy. Next is the Pilis peak. At 756 meters it is the highest point of the Transdanubian Mountains. From this grassy perch count the Pilis villages. Count also the many hills in the landscape.
Notice how distinctly the Visegrád Mountains stand apart. It belongs to the North Hungarian Mountains. It is also part of the Carpathians. It is a volcanic range undulating gently in the background. Closer, the Pilis displays sharper forms. It has steeper sides. Its narrow ridge consists of sedimentary rocks. It is part of the Transdanubian Mountains. The valley separating the two mountain ranges darkens behind Hosszú-hegy.
To reach Kötök padja from Hármashatár-hegy follow the yellow trail. It goes towards Jegenye-völgy. You will find Kötök padja viewpoint at a tight bend. It is slightly above you on the hillside.
From the Templom utca bus stop follow the K+ sign. Go through Mosbach Park to Patakhegyi utca. Turn left. At the first opportunity after TSZ Tökhegyi út turn right. Follow the stations up the hill. When you join the S2 sign take the right path. Cross a small rocky pass. Follow the S sign forward and to the right. Within meters you will reach a meadow. It runs to the hillside on your right. The bench used to stand here. This route is 2.3 km with a 102 m elevation gain.
From the t\u00e9glagy\u00e1ri bek\u00f6t\u0151\u00fat stop take the K sign up the hill. When it turns left continue straight. Follow the unmarked road uphill. You will find the K signs again. Reaching the ridge turn right onto the S sign. Just before a sharp left turn you will find the small clearing. It is on your left at 3.1 km and 233 m elevation gain.
For parking leave your car at the end of Kulcs utca. Or along Törökhegyi út on the edge of Pesthidegkút. This is the closest parking to the viewpoint.
