Paris’s Korat restaurant a hidden gem. Its story began in 1988 not in Thailand but in France. A friendship between Daphna Negus and Anne Kriese sparked an unlikely passion. This passion was for the Korat cat a breed then unknown in France. Daphna tirelessly promoted this mysterious feline. Anne suggested breeding them to a newcomer to the cat fancy. They traveled to a London cat show. There they encountered Mr and Mrs Hard and their stunning green-eyed Korats. This led to importing cats from various lines. A fifteen-year-old Frederic Goedert worked tirelessly to fund this project. Unexpectedly Anne received a pair of Korats a traditional Thai gift from Daphna. Muaythai Diwan Damrong and his sister Muaythai Dussehra Dulcie arrived in France. They were soon joined by Jing’s Phai Lin of Passaya Frederic’s first Korat. These cats made their debut at a FIFe show in Paris. This marked the beginning of the Korat’s French success. In July 1989 the first Korat litter was born in France. Passaya El Gu Chayon Ejalma and Esrasena were born. The Korat quickly gained popularity. More studs arrived from the UK. Koorahk Phra Kwahm of Passaya born on the same day as Phai Lin and Frederic joined the cattery. Anne continued importing Korats. Claudine Dotte joined the venture. They bred with Passaya Ejalma. More imports followed from the US and Scandinavia. Passaya Ginee-Bon became the Best Cat of the Year. Passaya Fudon Thani earned the title of Best Korat worldwide. Alain Garrigues took over breeding when Frederic stopped. Sadly later years saw troubles. New laws and regulations impacted breeding. Many breeders quit or went underground. This drastically reduced the number of litters. New breeders emerged. Sylvie Robert Mme Gouny and M Deljary continued the legacy. Frederic resumed breeding with Sylvie’s German stud. Passaya Rajsima Paramour began a new era. Stephan Franke provided Khy-Mook v Baan Thai. Korathai Ton Narm and Lovesumalee Lady Blueberry followed. Another breeder joined importing a cat from Belgium. An international program was established. The Korat’s journey in France is a testament to dedication perseverance and a love for these unique cats. So enjoy your meal at Korat the restaurant which honors this enduring legacy.
