Let’s delve into the history of this remarkable church. Construction started in 1856. It finished in 1861. The Agios Konstantinos and Eleni Church is the largest church complex in Pera. It is also arguably the most beautiful.
Konstantinos Karantzas designed this domed cruciform basilica. It features two characteristic belfries. Imagine the architect’s vision taking shape. Think of the community’s anticipation as the church rose.
The Saints Constantine and Helen Church is dedicated to Emperor Constantine the Great. It also honors his mother Helena. They celebrate its dedication every year on May 21st. Feel the sense of history. The dedication links this place to the very foundation of Constantinople.
