“Why did they stand so firm?” That question echoes when standing before the Königreichssaal Jehovas Zeugen in Munich. This hall is a place of worship and a testament to faith. But it also carries a deeper significance tied to a dark chapter in history.

The Königreichssaal Jehovas Zeugen reminds us of the strength found in conviction. During the Nazi era, Jehovah’s Witnesses faced intense persecution. Their refusal to conform to Nazi ideology led to imprisonment and death. They wouldn’t give the Hitler salute. They wouldn’t serve in the armed forces.

The Nazis saw their unwavering stance as a threat. Over a thousand Witnesses died. Hundreds faced execution for undermining national defense or for conscientious objection. Hitler himself vowed to eradicate them from Germany. He failed.

A special exhibit at the Munich Documentation Centre highlighted the experiences of Jehovah’s Witnesses. It shared stories of courage, loyalty, and survival. One story featured Martin and Gertrud Pötzinger. They were arrested and sent to separate concentration camps after only a few months of marriage. They didn’t see each other for nine years. Both survived this ordeal. Later, Brother Pötzinger became a member of the Governing Body of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Another panel told the story of Therese Kühner. She became one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1929. When Germany banned the Witnesses, secret religious meetings were held in her home. She covertly printed Witness literature using a hand-cranked mimeograph machine. The Nazis discovered her activities. Therese was arrested and accused of publishing anti-state literature and demoralizing the troops. Her loyalty never weakened and she was executed in 1944.

These stories, these people, were not forgotten. The Königreichssaal Jehovas Zeugen stands as a reminder. It reminds everyone of their sacrifices and unwavering faith. It also shows the importance of standing up for what you believe in.

The Königreichssaal Jehovas Zeugen is more than just a building. It represents resilience in the face of oppression. It symbolizes the triumph of faith over fear. Consider this hall a reminder of the past. It’s a symbol of hope for the future.
