Wow What a fantastic building this is. The Kohl Children’s Museum stands before you a testament to the power of play and learning. Established in 1985 it began as an extension of the Kohl Teaching Center in Wilmette. It was founded by philanthropist Dolores Kohl daughter of the founder of Kohl’s department stores. Her education foundation made this amazing place a reality.

Initially located in Wilmette the museum moved to its current Glenview location in 2005. This new building is nearly double the size of the original. It sits on 8.8 acres including a large indoor space and a two-acre outdoor exhibit. The museum is designed to be a hands-on learning laboratory for children from birth to age eight.

Did you know that the Kohl Children’s Museum isn’t just fun? It’s also a leader in early childhood education. Its programs align with Illinois State Learning Standards making learning both fun and informative for young children. It’s committed to accessibility ensuring all children can participate regardless of physical visual auditory or cognitive abilities. The museum is 100% ADA compliant using universal design principles.

The museum has also embraced green initiatives. It’s a LEED certified building meaning it is environmentally friendly and energy efficient. Even the kids learn about environmental concerns through hands-on activities both indoors and outdoors. In 2010 they even added solar panels to the roof further reducing their environmental impact.

Over 350000 people visit the Kohl Children’s Museum each year. More than 7500 families are members showing the impact it has on the community. They even have outreach programs reaching underserved communities through their Early Childhood Connections program.

The Kohl Children’s Museum is more than just a museum. It’s a vibrant community hub dedicated to nurturing the growth and development of young children. It’s a place where learning and fun intertwine seamlessly creating a truly unforgettable experience for every visitor. So come on in and explore the wonders of the Kohl Children’s Museum.
