Gazing at Kohimarama School, can you imagine the echoes of children’s laughter throughout its history? Kohimarama School stands proudly on Kohimarama Road in Auckland. It first opened its doors in 1921. The school grounds were officially inaugurated on September 6, 1924. Kohimarama School isn’t just a place of learning. It’s a living testament to the community’s dedication to education. The school’s memorial entrance gates, a symbol of remembrance and respect, were unveiled on June 14, 1928. A. Burns, the chairman of the Auckland Education Board at the time, presided over the ceremony. A unique piece of maritime history is woven into the school’s identity. The flagpole and bell that grace Kohimarama School were originally from the scow “Kohi.” This connection to the sea adds a touch of nautical charm to the school’s atmosphere. Kohimarama School has grown and evolved over the years, adapting to the changing needs of its students. As of November 2024, the school boasts a vibrant student body of 528 pupils. The school’s motto, “Enter to Learn, Leave to Serve,” reflects its commitment to nurturing well-rounded individuals. Kohimarama School, a beacon of knowledge and community spirit, continues to shape young minds and inspire future generations.
