Founded in 2004 Copenhagen’s Idraetsefterskole KIES is more than just a school. It’s a vibrant community. KIES was born from a need. Talented young athletes from Copenhagen were leaving for boarding schools elsewhere. Three local clubs Boldklubben Fremad Valby BK Frem and Ajax decided to change that. They created KIES a unique sports boarding school right in the heart of Valby.
KIES is nestled within Valby Idrætspark. It’s perfectly situated. It’s just a short distance from Copenhagen’s city center. The school is near Ny Ellebjerg station offering easy access to the city’s many attractions. Imagine students easily exploring Copenhagen after school. KIES isn’t just about sports. It’s about personal growth and community. The school offers four sports lines: dance football handball and basketball. Each line has both girls and boys. The aim is equal representation. Students continue playing for their clubs. KIES even boasts elite athletes among its students.
Students live in row houses. Each house accommodates 10-12 students. Boys and girls from different sports lines share houses. This fosters a strong sense of community and friendship across all lines. KIES offers annual trips. The football and handball lines travel to Barcelona for training and matches. Past trips for other lines included Berlin and Paris. There’s also an annual trip to Club La Santa in Lanzarote. This is a sports resort that emphasizes health and fitness.
