Legend says that this spot was once a hunting lodge. Landgrave Moritz used it. However, no traces of this lodge have ever been found. Today, the name Kleiner Herbsthaus refers to a charming restaurant. It sits in the area of the former Schlüsselstollen mine.

The Ziegenkopf mountain rises nearby. It stands 564.7 meters above sea level. The Drusel stream originates not far from here. The Firnsbach stream also starts on the mountain’s slope.
Once, a ski jump stood near the Kleiner Herbsthaus. It was on the northern slope of the Kleiner Herbsthaus. Later, the Max-Höfer-Schanze was built on the Ziegenkopf. It was a popular spot for ski jumping.
To reach the Kleiner Herbsthaus, trails beckon. The Habichtswaldsteig trail passes by it. The Märchenlandweg trail leads eastward.
In 2005, a fire destroyed the Kleiner Herbsthaus. But it was rebuilt. It reopened in December 2006. It is larger than before.
