Kiwanis Lodge is more than just a place to stay. It’s a gateway to exploring the natural wonders of Huia Bay and Whatipū. The lodge provides easy access to a safe beach. It serves as a base for exploring the breathtaking Waitākere Ranges.
The lodge can accommodate up to 45 people. It includes a three-bedroom house known as the Hinge House. Three stand-alone chalets each have their own lounge areas. The kitchen-dining area and shower facility block are in separate buildings. A large outdoor courtyard offers great views over the Manukau Harbour. You can even book Kiwanis Lodge in conjunction with Huia Lodge. Huia Lodge sleeps up to 30 people.
Let’s talk about the sleeping arrangements at Kiwanis Lodge. Each of the three chalets contains 12 beds. In the Hinge House, Room 1 has a single bed. Room 2 has two bunks which sleep four people. Room 3 also has two bunks which sleep four people. Remember to bring your own bed linen, blankets, and personal items.
Kiwanis Lodge provides several amenities for a comfortable stay. The water supply is drinkable town water. There is a standard domestic power supply. The fully equipped kitchen includes a fridge/freezer. You’ll find pots, pans, cooking utensils, crockery, and cutlery. A separate shower facility block includes a washing machine and toilet block.
A few rules ensure everyone enjoys their stay at Kiwanis Lodge. Animals are prohibited at all times. You must keep the lodge clean and tidy. Place rubbish in the appropriate bins. Fires are prohibited. There are twenty car parks on site for overnight vehicles. Keep your vehicle locked and valuables hidden.
Kiwanis International has a rich history. It was founded in 1915 in Detroit, Michigan. Initially, it was named the Supreme Lodge Benevolent Order of Brothers. In 1916, the name changed to Kiwanis. The founders believed the word meant “we build” in an Algonquian Native American language. Kiwanis became an international organization that same year. The Kiwanis Club of Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, was founded.
The Kiwanis Club of Auckland was established on April 26, 1967. It was one of the first three clubs created in New Zealand. The Kiwanis Club of St Heliers followed on March 1, 1968. The Kiwanis Club of Hamilton was established on May 1, 1968.
