Dream for a moment. Imagine a world where faith meets intellect. Here at the Kirche des Aloisiuskollegs, that dream took architectural form. The Kirche des Aloisiuskollegs stands as a testament to the Aloisiuskolleg’s rich history. It embodies its commitment to spiritual and intellectual growth.

The original church on this site was erected in 1957. It served the Aloisiuskolleg community well. By the mid-1980s, however, that church was deemed structurally unsound. A new vision was needed. Winfried Landsberg, an architect from Euskirchen, designed the current church. It is a unique structure of two interlocking hexagons.

Landsberg cleverly used the hillside location to create distinct spaces. There is an upper church and a lower church. The lower church functions mainly as a crypt. This design element is advantageous for a school. Smaller groups can gather in the crypt. Larger assemblies convene in the upper church. This division allows for both religious and secular events. The sacred and the academic coexist harmoniously in the Kirche des Aloisiuskollegs.

The exterior of the Kirche des Aloisiuskollegs features brown brick. Basalt lava stones accent the corners. These materials give the building a solid grounded feel. The roof and bell tower are clad in brown aluminum panels. They blend seamlessly with the surrounding environment.

Three bronze bells cast in 1957 reside in the steeple. These bells ring out the “Te Deum” motif. The 19-meter-high bell tower is a striking feature. It complements the contemporary color scheme.

Franz Gutmann designed the crypt. He created a massive round door and other key features. These include the ambo the tabernacle and the altar. These elements are aligned along a single axis. The rough stonework of the walls enhances the cavernous atmosphere. This creates a contemplative space.

Reinhold Schrödter created the liturgical elements of the upper church. A Seifert organ adorns the two-sided gallery. Its manuals and pedals fill the space with music. Six massive beams support the wooden paneled roof. The roof contributes to the church’s tent-like feel. The interior of the Kirche des Aloisiuskollegs fosters a unique sense of community.

A bronze sculpture of an angel by Ewald Mataré is the highlight. It symbolizes the spiritual aspirations of the Aloisiuskolleg. The Kirche des Aloisiuskollegs is more than just a building. It is a symbol of faith, learning and artistic expression.

The Kirche des Aloisiuskollegs has undergone numerous changes. Yet it remains central to the Aloisiuskolleg experience. It represents the school’s enduring values. These values are tradition and innovation.
The Kirche des Aloisiuskollegs stands as a beacon. It embodies the spirit of the Aloisiuskolleg. It inspires all who enter its doors.
