What makes Kingston Mines so special? You’re standing before the oldest, continuously operating blues club in Chicago. This legendary place opened its doors back in 1968 and is drenched in the rich history of Chicago blues. Kingston Mines wasn’t always a club. It started as a theatre company and café. The founders named it after Kingston Mines, Illinois. Interestingly, the father of one of the actors worked there. In the early 70s, Doc Pellegrino took over and transformed it into the blues haven it is today. He moved Kingston Mines to this location in 1982. The club even survived a near closure during the pandemic thanks to dedicated fans. Imagine that! They raised over $60,000 to keep the blues alive in Chicago!
