Feel the Sandbelt beneath your feet. We’re standing before Kingston Heath Golf Club. It is not just any golf club. Kingston Heath is one of Australia’s premier golf destinations.

Established in 1909, Kingston Heath Golf Club boasts a rich history. Initially known as Elsternwick Golf Club, it found its home here in Cheltenham in 1925. Imagine dismantling an entire clubhouse. Then reassembling it piece by piece at a brand-new location.

Kingston Heath has earned its reputation. It is consistently ranked among the top golf courses in Australia. Many consider it among the finest in the world. Its fame rests on superb conditioning. This lasts all year round. Also, it is due to its clever bunkering. The dips and hollows can visually deceive even experienced golfers.

Kingston Heath’s original course design came from Dan Soutar. Later, Dr Alister MacKenzie offered his expertise on bunkering. Interestingly, the founders thought it easier to shorten the course later. They believed this was better than lengthening it.

Think about the pressure of a major tournament. Kingston Heath has hosted many prestigious national and international events. Tiger Woods won the Australian Masters here in 2009. He praised the world-class bunkers. Other champions include Adam Scott, Ian Baker-Finch, and Greg Norman. These legends have all graced the fairways of Kingston Heath.

Kingston Heath is more compact than many modern courses. Its 18 holes cover only 50 hectares. But don’t let the size fool you. The course demands strategy and precision. Stray too far from the fairway. Then the rough of long grass and ti-tree will punish you.

Note also the 19th hole. This par 3 can be rotated into the course. It is used during maintenance on other holes. This adaptability makes Kingston Heath ideal for major events. The club also uses an “Inner and Outer” course layout for tournaments.

Consider the challenge. Large greens meet equally large bunkers. Avoiding the undergrowth becomes paramount. Kingston Heath tests even the most accomplished golfer.

Remember the 2028 Presidents Cup. Kingston Heath will showcase its world-class design to a global audience. Adam Scott believes this event will properly introduce Kingston Heath to the world.

Opened in April 2023, The Furrows complements the main course. This short course offers 9 holes. These range from 50 to 140 meters. It provides enjoyment for beginners. At the same time it still challenges experienced players.

Kingston Heath Golf Club stands as a testament. It represents Australian golfing excellence. From its humble beginnings to its current world-class status, Kingston Heath continues to inspire.
