The Kilyos Mezarlığı is located in the Sarıyer district of Istanbul. It serves as a final resting place for many. Notably, it has separate sections for those of the Jewish and Baháʼí faiths. The Neve Shalom Synagogue Foundation oversees burials. It also maintains the grounds.
But why Kilyos? Why this location far from the city center? The Ulus Sephardi Jewish Cemetery once served the community. It is located in a now-upscale area of Istanbul. Over time it became increasingly expensive. Many families could no longer afford burial plots there. Kilyos Jewish Cemetery became an alternative. It provided a place for those with fewer resources.
