Imagine a hospital that heals not only bodies but also minds. That is Khoo Teck Puat Hospital. This hospital is not just a place for treatment. It’s a testament to Singapore’s dedication to innovative and patient-centered healthcare.

Khoo Teck Puat Hospital opened its doors on March 28, 2010. Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew officially opened it later that year. But its story began long before. In 2001, plans emerged for a new hospital in the north of Singapore. This hospital was intended to serve the growing population.

Initially, it was planned to be named Alexandra Hospital @ Yishun. However, in 2007, the family of Khoo Teck Puat donated S$125 million. This generous donation led to the hospital being named in his honor. Khoo Teck Puat was a famous Singaporean hotelier.

Khoo Teck Puat Hospital spans 3.5 hectares in Yishun Central. It overlooks the scenic Yishun Pond. The hospital provides many medical services for residents in the north. In 2017, Khoo Teck Puat Hospital merged with the National Healthcare Group. It is now known as Yishun Health. This includes Yishun Community Hospital and Admiralty Medical Centre.

The hospital’s design is patient-friendly. CPG Consultants and RMJM collaborated on this design. The wards are designed to prevent accidents. There are no protruding sinks or cupboards. The hospital also has environmentally friendly features. It uses 30% less energy than other hospitals. This saves over S$1 million a year on utilities.

Fins channel the north-east winds into the building. This enhances airflow by 20 to 30%. Sun shades reduce glare from sunlight. They direct light upwards to light up the wards. Solar panels on the roof power fans in public areas. The air-conditioning system uses cooler air from internal courtyards.

Khoo Teck Puat Hospital is more than just a building. It’s a place of healing and innovation. It is a symbol of Singapore’s commitment to healthcare excellence. It’s a place where patients come first. A place where the environment matters. Khoo Teck Puat Hospital stands as a beacon of hope. It reflects a future where healthcare is both advanced and compassionate.
