Perhaps the most captivating aspect of Kesiman Petilan is its dedication to preserving Balinese traditions. Kesiman Petilan is a village located in Denpasar Timur. It is part of the Denpasar city in Bali. The village embodies the spirit of “Bhinneka Tunggal Ika”. This ancient Javanese phrase means “Unity in Diversity.” It reflects Indonesia’s national motto. Kesiman Petilan is more than just a place. It is a symbol of togetherness.

The area of Kesiman Petilan spans 2.81 square kilometers. According to a 2016 census, 12,717 people reside here. This equates to a population density of 4,102 people per square kilometer in 2010. The village comprises 10 Banjar units and 2,030 households.

Kesiman Petilan was formed from a split of Kesiman Village. This original village is now Kelurahan Kesiman. The division was formalized through a decree. The decree was issued by the Regent Head of Level II Badung. It was numbered 167/Pem.15/166/79. It was dated December 1, 1979. The establishment was further reinforced. It was based on Governor Head of Level I Bali Decree No. 57 of 1982. This happened on June 1, 1982. It officially became Kesiman Petilan. The village covers 290 hectares. It includes nine hamlets.

The name Kesiman Petilan comes from Pura Agung Petilan. This temple sits in the heart of the village. It is popularly known as Pura Pengerebongan. Its Ngerebong ceremony attracts tourists. The ceremony occurs every six months. It takes place on Sunday. This is on Wuku Medangsia. That is one week after Umanis Galungan.

Administratively, Kesiman Petilan includes ten hamlets. These are Banjar Kedaton and Banjar Batanbuah. Also included are Banjar Kehen and Banjar Meranggi. The list continues with Banjar Bukit Buwung and Banjar Kuningan. Furthermore, there are Banjar Abiannangka Kaja. Not forgetting Banjar Abiannangka Kelod. The final two are Banjar Dukuh and Banjar Saraswati.

Kesiman Petilan faces modern challenges. One significant issue is waste management. The community has united. They are determined to combat waste. The village acquired a truck. They also bought a carry vehicle. Two motor carts were added.

I Wayan Gede Dharma Putra, SE, is the village head. He spoke about these efforts. Kesiman Petilan is about 4 km from Denpasar. Its flat terrain helps with waste transportation. However, the existing fleet was insufficient. It did not match the needs of the population. Almost 7,000 residents live here. They are spread across 10 hamlets. The community agreed to increase the number of vehicles.

The village collaborates with private entities. This is through a self-management scheme. Residents outside the DKP’s service area benefit. The village manages waste together with private operators and residents. Households pay IDR 20,000. Food stalls pay IDR 25,000. Restaurants pay between IDR 30,000 and IDR 100,000. Poor families receive free services.

Kesiman Petilan also partners with a waste bank. Made Bagiada manages it. The waste bank helps reduce the amount of waste. The village plans to equip its staff with Handy Talkies. This will improve communication. The village has created local regulations. These are called perarem. They are in each Banjar. These aim to deter littering. Violators face sanctions. The Kedaton hamlet leader supports these measures.
