Right in North Kensington, the Kensington Leisure Centre is more than just a modern facility. It holds a fascinating story within its walls. This isn’t the first time a leisure centre stood here. The Kensington Leisure Centre replaced an older building from the 1970s, which itself had replaced the Victorian-era Lancaster Road baths. The history of recreation and community spirit in this spot goes way back. The current Kensington Leisure Centre was a project born out of necessity. The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea needed more school places. They also needed to update their aging sports facilities. The idea to combine the two was proposed in 2008. The result was a dual-purpose site shared with the Kensington Aldridge Academy. The Duchess of Cambridge herself, Catherine, officially opened both in January 2015. Inside, it’s a hive of activity. You’ll find a 25-meter swimming pool, gyms, a sports hall, and even a spa. The Kensington Leisure Centre truly caters to everyone in the community. As you can see, the Kensington Leisure Centre embodies the spirit of renewal and adaptation. It’s a testament to how a community can come together to create something fantastic.
