Can a church be born from the dreams of two congregations? At Keller Springs Baptist Church, the answer is a resounding yes. Here, just north of the Dallas area, two groups, the Christian Chapel CME of Addison and Simms Chapel AME of Carrollton, intertwined their hopes to create something new. Their vision materialized on June 12, 1967, with the founding of Keller Springs Community Church. The Reverend H.H. Levels guided the fledgling church. In 1968, they found a home at 2601 Keller Springs Road, thanks to the support of Reverend Wayne Allen and the First Baptist Church of Carrollton. This partnership transformed Keller Springs Community Church into a mission church. The name officially changed to Keller Springs Baptist Church. Leadership then passed to Reverend Robert Price and Reverend Billy Joe Johnson. These two pastors shared the responsibilities for several years, nurturing the small congregation. In March 1973, Reverend Ezell Smith took the helm. Later, in November 1982, Pastor Willie Jacobs arrived at Keller Springs Baptist Church. He established the church’s foundation, ordaining deacons and creating the Christian Education and Mission Departments. Under his guidance, the church flourished, both spiritually and in numbers. They settled into their building at 2601 Keller Springs Road. A significant milestone arrived on January 1, 1987. Keller Springs Baptist Church declared its independence from the First Baptist Church of Carrollton. Growth continued, and the need for a larger space became evident. In 1993, the church purchased land for a new building at 3227 Keller Springs Road. This current sanctuary welcomed its first worshippers on September 8, 1996. Keller Springs Baptist Church expanded its reach in 1998 with its first mission trip to the Virgin Islands. That same year, Pastor Jacobs, a dedicated soul-winner, resigned. The year 2000 brought a new leader, Reverend Larry J. Sanders Sr. He ushered in an era of prayer and renewal under the theme “Fresh Wind, Fresh Fire.” The church expanded remarkably under his leadership, from 67 to 600 active members. Pastor Sanders spearheaded the development of many current ministries, and in 2010, oversaw a renovation project. Keller Springs Baptist Church, born from a shared dream, continues to thrive, a testament to faith, community, and the enduring power of shared vision.
