Once upon a time Kebon Jeruk was not buildings but orange trees. Kebon Jeruk means orange garden in Indonesian. Now I will tell you about Kebon Jeruk in Jakarta. It is a district of West Jakarta.

Imagine this area long ago. It was filled with orange groves. The air was sweet with citrus. People grew oranges in gardens. They grew them in their yards. These oranges were for their families.

The story says the Dutch brought orange trees from China. They lived in Kebon Jeruk then. The area became known for these orange gardens. Today Kebon Jeruk has changed. The orange groves are gone. Buildings and homes have taken their place.

Kebon Jeruk is still an important place. It is a busy area in West Jakarta. Major roads go through it. These are Panjang Road, Arjuna Utara and Selatan Roads. Also Perjuangan Road goes through it. The Jakarta–Tangerang Toll Road passes through here too. It connects Jakarta to Merak.

Kebon Jeruk is divided into smaller areas. These are called kelurahan. There are seven kelurahan. They are Duri Kepa, Kedoya Selatan, and Kedoya Utara. Also Kebon Jeruk, Sukabumi Utara, Kelapa Dua, and Sukabumi Selatan.

Many important places are in Kebon Jeruk. You can find RCTI headquarters here. Also MNCTV and GTV headquarters. Indosiar and Metro TV headquarters are here.

There are other important buildings. Maria Bunda Karmel Church is here. So are Grha Kedoya Hospital and Siloam Hospital. If you need eye care go to Jakarta Eye Center. Bina Nusantara University is located here. Also SMAN 16 Jakarta Barat and Museum Macan.

Kebon Jeruk has good transport. You can take the Transjakarta city bus. Koridor 8 goes from Lebak Bulus to Pasar Baru. Bus 8D goes from Joglo to Terminal Blok M. In the future you can take the MRT. The East-West Line will connect Cikarang to Balaraja.

Kebon Jeruk is about 9.1 km from Jakarta. Many other places surround it. Pejuangan is nearby at 0.4 km. Kebon Jeruk Indah is 0.7 km away. Rawa Tiga Suku is 1.1 km from here.

Even though it has changed Kebon Jeruk keeps its name. It reminds us of the orange gardens. These gardens once filled this area. Today it is a modern district. It is full of life and activity. Kebon Jeruk has grown a lot. It is still connected to its past.
