Nestled within Budapest’s embrace lies Kaszádűlő, a neighborhood brimming with stories. Kaszádűlő whispers tales of transformation, from marshland to bustling community. Its name, likely derived from “kaszálórétek” (hay meadows), hints at its agricultural past. Streets like Búza (Wheat), Köles (Millet), Kazal (Haystack), and Zab (Oat) further echo this history. Originally a marshy area prone to flooding, Kaszádűlő saw its first flood-control dam built between 1881 and 1882. This protected the area from the Aranyhegyi and other streams. This dam, extended in 1884, marked an early step in the area’s development. By the 1950s, the land was filled, erasing the marshy landscape. Kaszádűlő transformed again in the late 1970s with the arrival of the HÉV suburban railway. This led to the construction of the Filatorigát station in 1978 and the current Kaszádűlő station. The HÉV line reshaped the area, connecting it more closely to the city. The neighborhood’s heart became a planned community hub with amenities like schools, healthcare facilities, and shops. Kaszádűlő’s western edge developed into an industrial zone, housing facilities like the Hungarian Television studios from 1986 to 1991. The area also boasts Budapest’s tallest structure, the 216-meter North Buda Power Plant chimney, completed in 1981. Today, Kaszádűlő stands as a testament to Budapest’s ever-evolving urban landscape. From hay meadows to railway lines and television studios, Kaszádűlő embodies the city’s dynamic spirit. Its story is one of constant change, reflecting Budapest’s growth and resilience.
