The Kasteler Ruder- und Kanu-Gesellschaft 1880 e.V., or KRKG as it’s often called, has a rich history intertwined with the city of Mainz. Founded in 1880 in Mainz-Kastel, this vibrant club now resides just across the water in Mainz-Kostheim. Imagine sleek rowing shells gliding down the Rhine, the rhythmic splash of paddles propelling canoes forward. That’s the heart of KRKG, a club dedicated to the joy of watersports. In the early 1940s, the Kast brothers etched their names into the club’s history by winning the German Rowing Championships over 10,000 meters. Years later, the dynamic duo of Josef Steffes-Mies and Jost Krause-Wichmann secured the German Championship title in double sculls in both 1962 and 1963. They even went on to win a bronze medal at the Rowing World Championships in 1962. The club’s boathouse offers more than just a place to store equipment.
