Printing and copying. That’s what initially brought me to Kasernescenen. I needed to print my thesis. Little did I know that this unassuming building housed a wealth of history. Kasernescenen wasn’t always a hub for art students. It was once a bustling military barracks. Think of the sounds. The rhythmic thud of boots. The sharp commands echoing through the halls. This building at Aarhus University saw significant action. It served as a vital part of the Aarhus University’s Department of Arts. But its story stretches back further. Much further.

The Kasernescenen is building 1582. It’s more than just a place to print. The building played a significant role in the events of World War II. The German military occupied the barracks during the war. Then in 1944 a bombing raid caused significant damage. Eighteen soldiers died. Two stable buildings and a workshop were destroyed. The main building suffered heavy damage. The scars of war are often invisible. But the resilience of this structure speaks volumes. It speaks of survival.

Today Kasernescenen supports research and education. It provides a space for students to flourish. Students working on their theses can even apply for assigned study spaces. It’s a far cry from its military past. Yet the echoes of those days remain. You can feel the weight of history within these walls. The building has modern equipment. It helps with the digital transformation of media. It handles modern event technology. Students can book rooms through email. There’s even a dedicated contact for music theater media and AV equipment.

Think about the transformation. From a military barracks to a center for artistic expression. The Kasernescenen’s story is a testament to adaptation and resilience. It’s a quiet reminder of Aarhus’s past. It offers a glimpse into the dynamic evolution of this city. The next time you find yourself at Kasernescenen remember the stories. Remember the sounds. Remember the echoes of history that still resonate within this remarkable building. It’s more than just a place to print. It’s a place to learn. It’s a place to create. It is the Kasernescenen.
