Fast forward to 1965, and the Shire decided to allow the Mt Dandenong Horticultural Society to transform this piece of history into a haven for Australian flora. And that’s how Karwarra Australian Plant Garden, as we know it today, came to be! Officially opening its doors in 1971, Karwarra now boasts over 1,400 different species of native plants.
