Before the population exchange between Greece and Turkey, it was home to a predominantly Greek community. This community had lived there for generations. They even had their own church. The exchange, part of the 1923 Treaty of Lausanne, brought Turkish families from Drama, Greece, to Karlıbayır Mahallesi. These new residents lived alongside the Greek community for two months before the latter departed for Greece. Imagine the stories exchanged, the anxieties felt, and the quiet resilience displayed during that transitional period. Karlıbayır Mahallesi, with its population now around 10,734, has seen steady growth over the years. The neighborhood is one of 38 within the Arnavutköy district. This district itself was formed in 2008, bringing together areas from Çatalca and Gaziosmanpaşa. Karlıbayır Mahallesi stands as a testament to the ever-evolving landscape of Istanbul, a city where history and modernity intertwine in the most unexpected ways.
