The Kapelle Heilige Sebastian und Fridolin in Bangs likely replaced an older chapel. That original chapel may have dated back to the times of the plague. However no written records or archaeological evidence supports this earlier structure.
In 1655 a new chapel was built on this very spot. By 1660 it was consecrated to Saints Sebastian and Fridolin. The Kapelle Heilige Sebastian und Fridolin underwent restoration in 1895. It stands as a protected monument.
Notice the chapel’s design. The nave and chancel share a common gable roof. You will see flat-arched windows all around. The south tower was added in 1884. It features round-arched openings and a pointed spire. The porch with its portal dates back to 1895.
Inside the Kapelle Heilige Sebastian und Fridolin you will find a barrel vault. The recessed chancel has a groin vault. An entrance leads to the sacristy. A wooden gallery stands at the west end.
Look closely at the high altar. It dates back to around 1660. Its two-column structure is impressive. The altar painting depicts Mariahilf with angels. Above this is an image of God the Father. Side paintings show the church’s patron saints Fridolin and Sebastian.
On the chancel arch wall you can see a Pietà by Jakob Summer. There is also a depiction of Saint Sebastian from around 1500.
